Bij CNET.com vond iemand dat het nodig was om een review te maken van de Smart and Friendly CD Rocket Mach 12, een redelijk onbekende 12x SCSI CD-ReWriter. Er wordt erg veel software bij dit apparaat geleverd, maar volgens de reviewer ging het schrijven van CD-RW's wel bijzonder langzaam:
Unfortunately, all the great software in the world isn't going to cancel out the Mach 12's slow rewritable recording speeds. You probably won't notice an enormous lag when recording small bits of data at a time, and we definitely can't complain about its CD-R speeds. We burned 311MB of data with the Rocket Mach 12 in around four minutes. But you're paying for CD-RW, too. In CNET Labs' CD-RW throughput tests, the Rocket Mach 12 slowed to a crawl. It inched along compared to other drives we've tested, including the less expensive HP CD-Writer Plus 9100i.
