Op het forum van SpamPal valt te lezen dat er een nieuwe versie beschikbaar is gekomen van het gelijknamige anti-spam-programma. Het gaat om versienummer 1.591 en deze kan vanaf hier worden gedownload. SpamPal controleert de binnenkomende e-mail en zal spam als zodanig markeren. Deze markering kan dan vervolgens worden gebruikt om een filter aan te maken die deze e-mail bijvoorbeeld in een aparte folder zet of direct weggooit. SpamPal kan overweg met zowel POP3- als IMAP4-accounts en gebruikt onder andere DNS-blacklists en een Bayesian filter om zijn werk te doen. James Farmer liet het volgende in zijn posting op het forum weten:
Following complaints that the last release v1.588 was catching less spam than previous versions, I've investigated and the result is v1.591 - this version fixes two bugs in the way public blacklist (DNSBL) queries were being handled. Both bugs have been present for some time and could result in spam slipping through the net, but this became more obvious after another bug in the blacklist-querying was fixed in v1.588.
v1.591 also contains a slightly updated French-language translation. Thanks to Michael for submitting this!
I advise those using v1.588 to upgrade to v1.591 immediately, especially if you've noticed more than the usual amount of spam slipping through the filters.[break]
