Driver-update: XGI Volari Reactor 1.06 WHQL

XGI Technology Inc. heeft versie 1.06 van hun Volari Reactor- en Volari Capture-drivers uitgebracht voor Windows XP en Windows Me. De Reactor-drivers zijn voor alle XGI Volari videokaarten geschikt en de Volari Capture-drivers zijn geschikt voor alle XGI Volari videokaarten met een tv-tuner aanboord. De volgende release notes worden meegeleverd:

XGI Technology Inc, an innovative graphics chipset supplier, today released its Reactor R1.06.57 driver for the Volari series with improved playability for numerous, popular games.

Reactor R 1.06.57 driver supports Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 and OpenGL 1.5 for the XGI Volari GPUs including Volari Duo, Volari V8/V8 Ultra, Volari V5, and Volari V3XT. The Reactor R 1.06.57 driver also incorporates PowerManager, DesktoPlus, Rotech, Virtual Screen, optimization of Open GL 1.5, and 1080i/720p HDTV support. PowerManager provides real-time GPU temperature data and monitoring. DesktoPlus allows users to organize their resources effectively with multiple, customized desktops. Rotech, stands for "Rotational Technology", powers up the hardware support for high quality monitor rotation. With a navigator from Volari's Virtual Screen, it frees users from the limits of smaller monitor sizes and lets them zoom into the areas selected.

XGI published list of games with improved visual qualities: Doom III, True Crime, Massive Assault, Besieger, TrackMania, Colin mcrae rally 04, Joint Operations: Typhoon rising, TOCA: Race driver2, ALIAS, and Far Cry. All games were tested on aforementioned Volari series GPUs with the latest Reactor R1.06.57 driver. To provide the eXtreme visual experiences to gamers, XGI has devoted itself to working closely with game developers worldwide. Gamers can check the list frequently and find the world's latest cinematic game play with Volari GPUs.

Leuk, maar niemand in Nederland heeft zo'n kaart.

Ik hoop dat er op de HCC een paar Volari V3's aangeboden worden

leuke kaartjes die V3's ... ondersteunt HDTV geloof ik ... ouch!

De drivers zijn helaas niet echt volwassen maar ze worden beter bij volari!

3DMark05 is Direct X 9.

De GeForce FX heeft zo goed als geen Direct X 9 support.

Hij heeft het wel, maar het is veels te traag, zelfs met de "top" modellen die zwaar ondermaats presteren in Direct X 9.

Maar Half-Life 2 draait toch ook prima op mijn GeForce FX, en Half-Life 2 is toch ook Direct X 9

Half Life 2 is optimized voor de GeForce FX, er wordt voor een groot deel geen DirectX 9.0 gebruikt maar 8.1 !.

DirectX 8 path

DirectX 8.1 path
Cards that use the DirectX 8.1 path include RADEON 8500/9100, RADEON 9000/9200, GeForce FX 5800/5900.

DirectX 9 path

Graphics cards that use the DX9 path include:GeForce 6800 series, GeForce 6600 series, RADEON 9500/9600, RADEON X300/X600 series, RADEON X800 series, RADEON 9700/9800, MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700, and MOBILITY RADEON 9800

Half Life 2 is niet geoptimaliseerd voor nVidia, maar er wordt simpelweg geen DirectX 9 gebruikt.
Half Life 2 op GeForce FX = Direct X 8.1.

Dat kun je ook terug zien in de kwaliteit, het water is met Direct X 9 doorzichtig en mooi, met Direct X 8.x is het niet doorzichtig, pixelig, en een stuk minder mooi. (Nog steeds wel mooi gemaakt hoor )

Doom III draait zelfs op Voodoo II's, weliswaar wat lelijker en zonder schaduwen etc.
Een Voodoo II is wel stokoud = 1998. En dat is een hele lange tijd voor hardware industrie.
