Software-update: Lansweeper 12.4.1

Om de apparaten in je netwerk in kaart te brengen, kun je gebruikmaken van Lansweeper. Dit programma werkt op een Windows-machine en is in staat om de aanwezige software en hardware te inventariseren in het netwerk, zonder dat daarvoor op elke computer een clientprogramma moet worden geïnstalleerd. Alle informatie is vervolgens via een webinterface te raadplegen. Lansweeper is beschikbaar als freeware voor kleine omgevingen, maar voor grotere omgevingen zal betaald moeten worden. Vanaf versie 10.4 wordt standaard de cloudversie geïnstalleerd. Wil je een lokale installatie, dan kun je deze instructies volgen. In de afgelopen paar versies zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

If you use SQL LocalDB 2014, this release will update your database. Before updating to the newest version, make sure to back up your installation.

• Added: LAN-17228 Never stop scanning is now compatible with multiple scan servers.
• Changed: LAN-17258 On Windows Server 2019 and earlier, LsPush now checks if the Windows Defender service is running if no other antivirus is detected, and reports Windows Defender as the antivirus for the asset.

Best wel spijt dat ik dit geinstalleerd heb zonder beter te onderzoeken. Er lijkt eerst een webserver op je PC te komen. Maar na installatie zeggen ze zonder pardon: "Oh de scanner op jou netwerk is nu verbonden met de cloud." Nee dankje :-)

Er komt een webserver op je server/beheer machine. Op de clients installeer je een agent, maar dat hoeft niet perse.

Voordeel van de agent, is dat je die dan ook kan overnemen en beheren, maar zoals de naam al zegt, is de kracht van deze tool juist dat hij alles opspoort in je netwerk. Het is best eng wat je zonder agent toch allemaal kunt ophalen.

Dat van de cloud is nieuw voor mij. Deze tool gebruikte ze op mijn eerste baan (2008 ongeveer), dat was nog toen XP nog bestond en Vista er waren. De cloud kwam langzaam pas op.

Lansweeper is leuk in een slecht beveiligde omgeving, maar met goede beveiliging op endpoints, kun je als het goed is erg weinig zonder de agents op je apparaten.

Dus in het verleden echt wel een fijne oplossing, maar ik vind het nu van sterk verminderde waarde.

(Denk aan WMI die op slot zit, admin accountlimitaties etc)

Ben het helemaal met je eens hoor.

Ik zou dit nooit gebruiken in mijn eigen netwerk, maar helaas stond ons netwerk ook niet echt bekend als super veilig. Kan nog herinneren dat ik echt aanstuurde op policies, maar dat was vrijwel onmogelijk (kwam als stagier - soms weten die ook wel wat..). Ik heb geen idee of we wel een wachtwoord op Lansweeper hadden zitten.

Precies wat je zegt, het werkt perfect als je netwerk niet goed beveiligt is, maar eigenlijk is het meer een tool om te checken of je netwerk wel goed dicht is.

Hehe ja misschien is het voor een hobbyist een beetje overdreven. Voor een proffesional kan ik er mij iets bij voorstellen. Maar ik hoef de interne zaken van mijn netwerk niet bij een ander bedrijf op de servers te hebben.
