Mandrake Linux heeft de eerste betaversie uitgebracht van de 9.2-serie. Deze distributie is zeer geschikt voor de beginnende Linux-gebruiker en is naar eigen zegge vergelijkbaar met Windows en MacOS. Deze beta wordt geleverd met onder andere Mozilla 1.4, Apache 2.0.47 en KOffice 1.3 beta. De release notes zien er als volgt uit:
Mandrake Linux 9.2 Beta 1 has arrived to offer you the opportunity of an entertaining summer bug squashing. Ranking of this next Mandrake, as for level of refinement, is partly in your hands. Join forces with the Mandrake Development team! Install the Beta and send your reports. Remember however that this is an experimental distribution not suitable to everyday-tasks machines. Take care.

- In RpmDrake, selection of package with the mouse doesn't work, one must use the keyboard.
- Due to unfinished new signature handling feature, RpmDrake complains about bad signature (Urpmi suffers from the same pain).
- New windows are not correctly centered.
- Usermode, the application used to get root priviledges, has a bug that prevents running config tools as a standard user. One must first log as root, then run the tool. This problem is fixed in the Mandrake Linux Cooker version, with package 'usermode-3.68-2mdk'.
