Software-update: FreeFileSync 8.7

Versie 8.7 van FreeFileSync is uitgekomen. FreeFileSync is een opensourceprogramma waarmee een back-up kan worden gemaakt of de inhoud van twee verschillende locaties kan worden gesynchroniseerd. Het is beschikbaar voor Windows, Linux en macOS, is niet afhankelijk van zaken als Java of een .Net Framework en is bovendien licht in gebruik. De Windows-installer bevat aparte 32bit- en 64bit-versies, en biedt ook de mogelijkheid om een portable versie te installeren. Sinds versie 8.5 zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

Er is nu dus een 'donation' edition zonder advertenties. Betekent dit dat de gratis versie nu adware bevat?

Het is open-source, dus je kunt 'm ook compileren zonder advertenties. Op de download-pagina staat Download FreeFileSync 8.7 Source.

Zo te zien is het gebouwd in C++ en hangt er een GPL v3 licentie aan (er staan nog een paar andere licenties bij in de license file, maar die lijken mij meer van toepassing op een paar hulpmodules, o.a. OpenSSL en cURL).

Is dit programma nu zoveel beter dan SyncBack!? En op welke manier dan?

Syncback doet alleen Windows, is commerciële, closed source software. De gratis versie is alleen voor persoonlijk gebruik en beperkt in zin mogelijkheden en features (geen open files kopiëren bijvoorbeeld)
Freefilesync is gratis, opensource en multiplatform. Je het toegang tot alle features.

Mijn persoonlijke indruk:
Syncback is een back-upprogramma wat je ook kunt gebruiken om directory's te synchroniseren.
FreeFileSync is een synchronisatie programma waar je ook back-ups mee kunt maken.
Beide hebben stapels mogelijkheden.
FreeFileSync heeft voor Back-up gebruik een wat onhandige interface. Een vergissing is zo gemaakt.

Gratis en open source is natuurlijk altijd een voordeel, maar beter is nou eenmaal een subjectief begrip. Probeer het zelf uit zou ik zeggen.

Ik gebruikte altijd de Portable Versie maar die is niet meer met deze update... Dan moet je naar de Donation Edition.... hmm.. even kijken... Zal een afweging moeten maken....
Tot nu toe met veel plezier al jaren gebruik gemaakt van FreeFileSync en heb er best wat voor over, maar eerst de condities maar eens bekijken...
