Firmware-update: QNAP TS-xx0/xx2/xx9 3.8.3 build 0426

QNAP heeft kort geleden een update uitgebracht voor versie 3.8 van de firmware voor de nas-apparaten die zijn uitgerust met een ARM-processor. In versie 3.8.0 treffen we onder meer een vernieuwde gebruikersinterface aan en is het eenvoudiger geworden om de nas te installeren. Verder is ondersteuning voor Windows 8 toegevoegd, kan nu van proxy's gebruikgemaakt worden en kan nu per gebruiker worden aangegeven welke netwerkservices en modules gebruikt mogen worden. Versie 3.8.3 voegt daar nog de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aan toe:

• Fixed the Wake-On-LAN (WOL) issue on TS-509/809 Pro
• Fixed inaccurate CPU temperature detection on some models
• Fixed the system error while deleting a new user account via CSV User Import function with Advanced Folder Permission enabled
• Fixed the Microsoft Networking Host Access Control wildcard issue in specific network configuration
• Fixed Amazon S3 backup issue when the file name contains [ or ]
• Fixed the Autorun.sh compatibility issue on ARM-based NAS
• Fixed the issue for truncated local & domain group name and permission settings if the name is over 40 characters long
• Fixed the "Relaunch upsd" issue

Ik hoop dat ze het nieuwe OS ook nog op de oudere modellen gaan ondersteunen (die dit kunnen trekken dan)
Bij Synology hebben oudere modellen ook een 'desktop look-a-like' beheer console. Ziet er een stuk gelikter uit.
De nieuwe modellen van Qnap hebben deze ook (oa TS-421 en TS-221), maar ik kan (nog) nergens vinden of deze ook voor de oude modellen beschikbaar wordt.

Zou leuk zijn, maar goed, hoe vaak kijk je nou naar de interface. Als het eenmaal draait zoals je wilt niet zo veel lijkt me.
Ik vind het belangrijk dat ze alles zo bugvrij mogelijk houden en dat de zaak veilig is. Dat laatste schijnt nogal een issue te zijn (erg verouderde software) mag ik het forum geloven.
Dus wat mij betreft liever een langzame evolutie dan een abrupte revolutie die allerlei bugs gaat introduceren zoals gebruikelijk is in softwareland.

Ik gebruikte hem eerst als webserver maar daar heb ik nu een thecus voor (die is van mij, deze qnap van m'n huisgenoot). DIng is sneller (zeker na een upgrade van 1GB DDR3 naar 4) en wat veiliger met een up to date php/apache/mysql install op z'n minst (samba loopt dan helaas weer wat achter).

En hij draait weer! Ging beetje mis tijdens het upgraden, moest hem handmatig rebooten en toen was hij lang bezig met de boot. Nog niets gevonden wat niet werkt.

Ik heb mijn TS-239 Pro voorzien van deze firmware. Geen problemen tot nu toe en de HDD's gaan gewoon in standby.

Mooi! Nu de eerst volgende 3 versies (bij een update) niet meer gebruiken! Ben zelf blij met deze update, ik kon namelijk niet meer de NAS bedienen via MS Explorer. Nu werkt alles weer goed, ook NFS gelukkig!
