RAR Labs heeft de tweede bètarelease van versie 4.10 van zijn archiveringsprogramma's RAR en WinRAR uitgebracht. De populaire compressietool is beschikbaar voor diverse besturingssystemen, waaronder Windows, Linux en Mac OS X. Het programma kan overweg met de meest gangbare formaten - waaronder rar, zip, cab, arj, lzh, tar, gz, ace, uue, bz2, jar, iso, 7z en z - heeft een skinnable interface en ondersteuning voor Zip64 en multivolume-cab-bestanden. Nieuw in versie 4.10 is onder andere dat er geen limiet meer bestaat op de grootte van een zip-archief en er is nu de mogelijkheid om een multivolume-zip-archief aan te maken. In bèta 2 zijn nog de volgende veranderingen doorgevoerd:
Changes in version 4.10 beta 2:
- Volume size in archiving and wizard dialogs can be specified as a decimal fraction. Decimal mark is defined by Windows regional settings.
-v command line switch also allows decimal fractions. In command line mode the dot (.) is always used as the decimal mark. For example, -v1.5g switch means 1.5 gigabytes.- "Add" command in first WinRAR beta did not allow to create a console SFX archive using WinCon.SFX module.
- If ZIP archive contained ZIP Unicode path extra fields, the first beta could not unpack files in subfolders of such archive.
- "CD700" and "FAT32" predefined volume sizes did not work properly.
