De ontwikkelaars van DivX zijn druk bezig geweest met Dr. DivX en hebben een nieuwe versie beschikbaar gesteld. Het programma is voortaan beschikbaar onder de LGPL en zal draaien op Linux, Mac OS X en Windows 2000/XP. Echter de eerste bètaversie van Dr. DivX 2.0.0 werkt alleen nog op het Windows-platform maar de verwachting is dat de andere platformen binnen niet al te lange tijd beschikbaar zijn. De volgende aankondiging is gebruikt om de vernieuwde arts aan de wereld te laten zien:

The Dr. apologizes to all those with video files he has not been able to help you convert in his absence. But before you get started please read all of the documentation as you will see...This is not the old Dr. DivX. This is something very new.
The new Dr. DivX 2.0 OSS Beta is available for testing and development. If you want to help us develop the new Dr. please grab the source code and check out what needs to be worked on. If you want to help us beta test this product please download it now and start testing.
