Areca heeft gisteren een nieuwe firmware-versie uitgebracht voor zijn Serial ATA RAID-adapters. Firmware versie 1.38 is van toepassing op zowel de PCI-X als PCI Express kaarten van het bedrijf. Naast diverse bugfixes, waaronder oplossingen voor errata in de door Areca gebruikte SATA-controllers van Marvell en I/O processors van Intel, is er de mogelijkheid toevoegd om de ethernet management poort op de adapters met twaalf of meer poorten uit te schakelen. Om ervoor te zorgen dat de ethernet poort na de firmware update is ingeschakeld moeten gebruikers eerst in het ethernet configuratie menu de "confirm operations box" bevestigen. Zie voor uitleg de onderstaande changelog, waarin ook de wijzigingen uit de niet-publieke versie 1.37 zijn opgenomen. Daardoor is een redelijk omvangrijke update ontstaan. De nieuwe firmware kun je downloaden vanaf de Nederlandse ftp-mirror van Areca en kan geïnstalleerd worden via de webbased management tool.
De changelog maakt ook duidelijk dat Areca producten in ontwikkeling heeft op basis van de Intel IOP333-processor. De IOP333 heeft geïntegreerde ondersteuning voor RAID 6 en draait op een hogere kloksnelheid dan de processors die Areca momenteel in op zijn SATA RAID-adapters gebruikt.

HDD_READ_AHEAD_SETUP 1If your controller have onboard lan port. before you update firmware to V1.38 please do following procedures once to make sure the ethernet will works after firmware updated.
1. enter the System controls > ethernet config menu
Because the V1.38 firmware supports disabling ethernet function. When you set the port number to 0, firmware will automatically disable it. And because this is a new function, the default port setting in old firmware is 0. So you must save the correct port number once to make sure ethernet will not be disabled after you update the firmware to V1.38.
2. check the "confirm the operation" box. then click the 'Submit' icon.
