We've said this before but we'll say it again- the chances of you being able to overclock any UltraTNT2 chip past the default 150/175MHz speed really depends upon the luck of the draw. We've had great success with some cards that go way above NVIDIA's recommended clock speeds, whilst other have had trouble. Our Creative 3D Blaster UltraTNT2 was not only unfortunately incapable of exceeding NVIDIA's recommended 150/183MHz speed but it did lock up from time to time. A little too much for our liking. For example, running Quake 2 Massive1 tests didn't seem to take to the card's liking. The same can be said for 3Dmark MAX99. There were some games that worked just fine but we were left feeling a tad uncomfortable with our particular board (here comes the rather nasty part).

Abit heeft nieuwe BIOSsen voor de BH6 en BX6-II op z'n FTP gezet:

Ik heb geen enkel idee wat die dingen doen. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk zul je er niet slechter van worden (bdw: mijn BX6-II werd véél stabieler met het laatste beta BIOS).

Ga-Source heeft Tammy Schachter, PR manager van Ubisoft, gevraagd om een reactie over de release van Mortyr:

We have only just begun going through all of the elements for the iMagic titles and we are still in the process of getting everything organized. Mortyr was scheduled to ship this summer, but due to the change in administration, I am sure there will be a change to the ship date. While no ship date has been set yet, we are doing everything we can to ensure that this game reaches store shelves as soon as possible.

GA-Source heeft John Danforth (een of andere hoge pipo bij Creative) gevraagd om een reactie betreffende de rechtszaak die 3dfx tegen Creative Labs heeft aangespannen. Vooralsnog lijkt Creative vastberaden:

Please tell us how Creative Labs feels about this lawsuit, and does 3dfx even have a case here?

It is baseless and they have no case. John added and explained, that the wrapper's code is completly different than 3dfx's and their is no copyright infringement issues involved.

Electronic Buyers' News heeft ook een nieuwsbericht gepost over de K7 presentatie van gisteren. Als je het nieuws bij AMD Zone, JC en Ace's Hardware hebt gelezen dan zul in dit niewsbericht weinig bijzondere info aantreffen. Maar goed, K7 blijft interesseren. Hier heb je een stuk over de nieuwe 3DNow! instructies (die waren eigenlijk best wel een verassing):

Meyer revealed that AMD has enhanced the 3DNow! instruction set, similar to the improvements Intel made in designing its SSE instructions. Nineteen new Single-Instruction, Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions were added, allowing the K7 to process more data in a given amount of time. Those instructions will enhance the K7's integer and cache performance. Moreover, five new DSP extensions were added, allowing the K7 to more efficiently decode multimedia files like MP3 audio files, or do software processing of communications algorithms like ADSL, Meyer said.

AGN Hardware heeft een review gepost van de Creative Encore 6x kit. Hier heb je een stuk over de bijgeleverde DXr3 MPEG-2 decoder:

After doing my last review of the Encore 5X kits, I was attacked with email after email about the problems that people were having with that kit. It seems that the DXr2 hardware decoder card had lived past its limit and people were complaining about the cards image quality and more. After figuring out that they had outlived the life of the DXr2, Creative moved up to the DXr3. Word on the street is the DXr3 is nothing but a Realmagic Hollywood Plus, something that I found to be true. But then again is it bad to use one of the most popular hardware DVD decoder cards on the market with your own name?

The quality of the DXr3's DVD playback is quite impressive, when watching a full movie I did not notice one artifact.

Hardware One heeft benchmarks gepost van hun supergekoelde PIII die ze op wonderbaarlijke wijze op 1GHz hebben draaien (vraag niet hoe ze de multiplier lock hebben weten te omzeilen). Om het nog leuker te maken hebben ze ook nog een Celeron richting 633MHz geklokt:

What do these numbers tell us? Well, they show that 993 MHz Celeron is 35.3% faster than a 500 MHz Pentium III in running demo1 at 800x600x16. The 993 MHz Pentium III however is a massive 48.1% faster than the 500 MHz Pentium III.

We can see that at higher resolutions the performance takes quite a hit and you’ll need quite some extra MHz to really push the envelope. The 633 MHz Celeron really shows some muscle, although the gap between 500 MHz and 633 MHz isn't that big. This is really where we need to push the VooDoo2's harder as the Pentium III scores clearly point out. The brute force of the 993 MHz Pentium III sets a new level of performance that even a VooDoo3 or a TNT2 Ultra won’t be able to beat with an non-overclocked CPU.
