| Why use Max-FX?
Nathan: MAX-FX is without question one of the strongest contenders in the engine battle of 1999. It totally rocks and has great stuff like volumetric particles and radiosity lighting. It's way beyond a lot of engines.
Tj: Any plans to depart from using the Max-FX engine?
Nathan: No, it's about as cutting edge as engines get. When Max Payne is released, I honestly think you'll agree.

It is possible to upgrade a Yamaha 2 speed recorder (200 or 2260) to a 4 speed (400 to 4260)! And all u have to do is to cut a little resistor from the circuit-board (should take up to 5 minutes...). So if u have a 2 speed Yamaha CD-recorder u maybe want to try this at home...at your own risk of course. Check out this sitefor a detailed manual. At your own risk ofcause.

Hier wat info uit een press release van Amiga Inc.: In a series of meetings in San Diego, representatives of Amiga Inc. and Amiga International met to hammer out the details of technical, strategic and marketing plans which will see the launch of a range of new Amiga-based computers for the next millennium. The company has relocated its headquarters to San Diego and Jim Collas will be serving as the new president of Amiga.
"Amiga is an amazing opportunity that we must act on now or it will be lost forever," said Collas. "The AmigaÔ platform is ideal for Internet-ready, consumer-oriented digital appliances of the future. The Amiga name is associated the world over with user-friendly, low cost, powerful computing. We will take this philosophy into the next generation, enabling products from hand held Internet appliances to high-end graphics computers that help the user rather than frustrate them."
[...]Amiga is planning to launch next generation products worldwide before the New Year. They will be announcing detailed product plans and introducing several of their strategic partners over the summer. Products currently targeted for the initial launch are a development system, an Internet appliance, and a low cost home computer in the tradition of the Amiga A500 that dominated home computing in the late eighties and early nineties. The developers system will be available with a software development suite for low cost development on the new platform.

PC Data's study, which looks only at the retail market and not at the market for corporate PC sales, shows that systems based on AMD's K6 processor family accounted for 43.9 percent of unit sales in January, with Intel-based systems accounting for 40.3 percent of sales.
The move was driven primarily by AMD's success in the low-end market. Within the past year, almost all of the major PC manufacturers have begun to use AMD's processors in their cheaper, low-end systems.

US said today that the PIII/550MHz is now expected to ship in May at prices of $750/1000. The PIII/500 costs $696/1000 and the PIII/450 costs $496/1000.
The shipping of the Pentium III has now caused an inevitable drop in PII prices. The PII/450 now costs, the PII/400 $284, the PII/350 $150. The PII/300 now effectively drops off the bottom of the roadmap.

Phew! I've successfully modified the Abit Slotket convertor for the dual tests. The one required a steady hand and a bit of nerve, as there is the requirement to solder a 56ohm resistor onto the board. Anyway it works! I've been taking some photos with a conventional camera (I balked a puchasing one when I saw the prices!) so they are been developed now, and I will pick them up 2PM today, UK time. I'll scan 'em in - I hope the 504 x 2 piccies comes out well!
Actually 2 x 504 is not really stable. While both CPU's are reasonably comfortable at 2.0v at 504, together things are not so stable. BTW the second convertor was sold to me as Tekram but it actually seems to be made by PCChips. Anyway, whatever, this one was a hell of a lot easier to modify than the Abit one!

The new TNT-2 will be presented on 15.03, accurate to the start of the CeBit 99. There wonŽt be much news about it before, because NVIDIA told the manufacturers to keep the specs secret until 15.03 (NDA).
The rumors over at SharkyExtreme about the different TNT-2 chip versions with 125MHz (TNT2 Pro), 143MHz (TNT2 Plus) and 166MHz (TNT2 Ultra) are not official confirmed yet. But itŽs sure that there will be more card version with TV-In and Out functions included.

Metabyte heeft z'n Stepsister SLI technologie nu officieel aangekondigd. Hier krijg je de press release, geript van AGN3D: The Wicked3D Board Company announced today that it will change the face of the PC gaming industry with its proprietary parallel graphics processing technology. This revolutionary technology was developed, in-house, by the Metabyte engineering team and will have a tremendous impact on the 3D graphics market for 1999 and beyond.
This technology will allow Metabyte to run graphics cards in a parallel configuration using any existing chip on the market. It will also have the capability to be applied to any future chipset that comes to market. Specifically, the application of this technology to an existing 2D/3D chip set will yield a 40+ percent increase in performance and will double megapixel per second fill rate of a dual card configuration over a single card. A white paper outlining the benefits of this technology in more detail can be found at http://www.wicked3d.com.
Wicked3D has successfully implemented this technology on current 2D/3D AGP and PCI architectures. Presently, demand for this technology has proven overwhelming as a result of unauthorized leaks on the Internet that have lead to customers demanding to pre-order Wicked3D parallel graphics boards. The company is reviewing a number of options to bring its technology to market in the coming months because of the tremendous response of consumers and companies within the industry.
The implementation of this Wicked3D driver technology requires very minor modifications to existing hardware. The process of rendering images from two sources will separate the images being rendered into sections. The driver then sends the render information to the appropriate board so that rendering occurs in parallel on the two boards. Such rendering is still the biggest performance bottleneck performance with current graphics hardware especially at high resolution so this approach provides a big win.
Wicked3D is reviewing which chipsets would best be supported by this technology in the high-end consumer graphics market, and will be making announcements shortly regarding products that will be using the Wicked3D technology. The company is targeting an aggressive retail launch for this technology.
"We have chip vendors, board vendors, the large retail chains, and even tier one OEMs knocking on our door now, and this is before we have even announced the technology." Says Dennis P. Raquet, General Manager of the Wicked3D Board Company. "The response is truly phenomenal. We are now brining forward our plans for introducing this technology, and scaling up our ambitions accordingly."
