The latest objective for the Cyrix group at NatSemi on the Jalapeno front, include high frequencies, the reduction of memory latencies, an improvement in FP and 3D performance and a tiny die size, say the overheads.
The technology will go to 0.18-microns, and have a deep pipeline with an 11 stage fetch to integer completion. Branch prediction will include a 1K entry, a four way BTB with seven bit history and prediction ROM, as well as a 16 entry return stack.
That much is not new. But insufficient attention has been given to its two issue x.86 core, the fact it is memory-centric, and its 600+MHz deep pipeline. Samples will arrive before the end of the year, promises Cyrix.

The game is played in turns, each a week in length. In between turns you have time to do all of the housekeeping duties you need to attend to, like recruiting and giving orders. The turns themselves are done in real time, and can be sped up or slowed down depending on whether there are any on-the-fly commands to issue or if you just want to let things play out. The game is played against a number of other gangs, each represented by a particular color (they all wear matching zoot suits). Your relationship with other gang leaders and gangs can be adversarial or cordial in nature. You may decide to approach a game in a ruthless manner, using terror and violence, or put up a front and use bribes and contributions to garner favor.

It was from Russian developer Nival (which sounds like a female recording artist but isn't). It was a hybrid strategy-role-playing game. It was surprisingly satisfying. It was Monolith's Rage of Mages. This game emerged only last October, and now, as if by wizardry, we will be seeing its sequel in April of this year. Nival began work on the sequel the minute RoM was finished—actually, as is the case with most sequels, it began development of the sequel during the development of RoM. As a result of testers' and players' comments, and as a result of the general natural evolution of a game, Necromancer was well equipped with at least ideas as early as eighteen months prior to its upcoming release. Said Monolith's Director of Product Acquisitions Dan Bernstein, "The idea is that instead of setting out to make a new engine—the people have concentrated on making RoM a better game.

EBNews heeft een artikel over Intel die AMD de oorlog verklaard heeft in de low-end markt: Sources close to Intel Corp. have confirmed the Celeron processor will exceed the clock speed of the Pentium II by the second quarter, as Intel prepares a low-end onslaught against competitor Advanced Micro Devices.
Intel's manufacturing push towards 0.18-micron will result in a 433-MHz Celeron released March 15, with a 466-MHz version released in the second quarter. The sources reported that the chip will cost between $120 to $130 in volume.
Meanwhile, the Pentium II will end life at 450 MHz, although Intel will probably still build Pentium II processor wafers for its customers for another year, the source said.
That will place increasing pressure on AMD's forthcoming K6-3, to be launched February 22nd. Sources report that the K6-3 will be released at 400 and 450 MHz, forcing the company to wait to exceed 450 MHz until its K7 chip is released in the second quarter, probably in June. Furthermore, AMD's pricing discounts will be harder to maintain with the K6-3's increase in die size.

Hier wat info over het spel zelf: Players will be able to choose from 20 rally cars which include independent suspension and an unprecedented level of interaction while racing across authentic Mobil 1 British Rally Championship stages. The ability to drive across the courses along multiple paths should increase the level of interaction that the player has with each track environment. The large amount of freedom in Rally 99 also translates into an incredibly responsive environment that will allow racers to interact with objects in the scenery (both mobile and immobile) and sustain active and detailed damage to their vehicle.

Hier maar weer wat copy/paste: Q: Do you plan on shipping the Savage 4 with 3DNow! support already included in the drivers (BTW, what's going on with the support for the original drivers)?
A: Yes, we will have 3DNow! support in the Savage4 drivers. Currently, the 3DNow! support for Savage3D is embedded in the MiniGL drivers, which can be found on the Internet as sites like S3 Planet.

Hier een stukje: Despite all the rumors, both chipsets will NOT support more than 16 Mb of shared memory (framebuffer and texture). 3Dfx will not support 32 Mb because, as Tony said, the Voodoo 3 chipset is supposed to be a mainstream solution and it wouldn't be worth the cost. When asked if owners of a Voodoo II SLI configuration have any reason to upgrade to Voodoo 3 both Tony and Nick agreed that the only real advantage is that you free up some PCI slots. In a typical system the Voodoo 3 chipset will not perform much better than a SLI Voodoo II setup.

Like all Vortex 2 boards, the Montego 2 works great with the Aureal reference drivers. Since the drivers are the same, so was the functionality, which I covered in my MX300 review. I certainly couldn't hear any difference between the two cards in terms of audio playback quality.
En de prijs...

For me, 3D Sound and real-world modeling alone justify the price of admission, but at $99 MSRP, you really have to ask yourself who Turtle Beach are targeting. With a high-profile, feature-filled competitor like the MX300 priced identically, the Montego 2 is left up the proverbial creek. Maybe Dell will pay that price to incorporate the Montego 2 in their systems, but no one else should.
