IE 5 brings a new and more "Mac like" user interface to its browser application. Users can now choose the browser color to match a number of iMac colors.
"...now we've got this cool looking translucent chrome background on it (the browser window), brand new icons that have this really cool glow when you mouse over them and the ability to switch your color to match your iMac. This is the kind of stuff Mac users care about!"
Acknowledging that Internet Explorer 5 was a long time in coming, Kwong believes it was well worth it. "If I had a dollar for every person that asked me 'When is IE 5 going to be released?', I would be very rich," Kwong said. "I hope after they give it a good looking over, every IE 5 user will feel it was worth the wait because I know we here in the Mac Business Unit feel it was."
No less insignificant, Outlook Express 5.02 gets an updating with new security features. Outlook Express will now support Authenticated SMTP, a security standard used by many Internet service providers to guarantee the identity of e-mail senders. The update also offers improved launch speeds for customers with large databases, better performance in reading complex HTML messages, importing messages and contacts from Claris Emailer, and connecting with ISP POP servers.
