While we covered the architecture of the Itanium in Part 3 of our IDF coverage, we now have some pictures of the actual systems Intel had running. Most followed the reference Intel design, such as the Dell server/workstation shown below. However, others went with their own custom designs, such as the 16-way configuration from NEC that stands over 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide.

dat zijn andere slotend dan ik gewend ben de 64 pci sloten die ik ken hebben een stukje achter hun normale pci slot zeg maar vesa ten opzichte van isa.

dit stukje heb ik van de copaq site afgeplukt om duidelijk te maken dat dat geen 64 bits pci slot is
wat tussen de normale pci sloten zit.
Q: Can I use my existing 32-bit PCI boards in the PCI Hot Plug slots?
A: Yes, all PCI slots in the ProLiant 8000 and ProLiant 8500 are backward compatible with 32-bit and 33Mhz industry-standard PCI boards. This includes the 66MHz PCI slots; however, note that because of the different voltage required for these slots, universal or 3 volt boards must be used.

Q: What are the advantages of 66MHz PCI?
A: As PCI boards become available that operate at 66MHz, they will function at maximum performance levels when used in the 66MHz slots. This increased bandwidth will further increase the I/O throughput of the ProLiant 8-way servers. The two main types of boards that will take advantage of this extra bandwidth are future multi-port NICs and array controllers. In addition to 66MHz boards, current 33MHz boards can be used in the two 66MHz slots if they are universally keyed.

ik heb wel betere pci sloten gezien (nog een stukje er achter) goedkope uitvoering zeker!!!
