zAb schreef dat er bij Sharky Extreme een review is gepost van de Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer. Gericht op Gamers wordt deze kaart geleverd met de full-versions van Descent 3, Need for Speed 4: High Stakes en Thief: The Dark Project. Hieronder vast een gedeelte:
Although the X-Gamer is basically an incarnation of it's nearly 1.5-year-old brother, there is a reason it has been so successful thus far. Thanks to the EMU10K1 DSP, the Live! family is continuously being upgraded to newer, more refined technologies. With the inclusion of a Digital Out port, the X-Gamer has expanded it's connectivity into the realm of digital speakers, making it that much more versatile. A killer gaming bundle and good driver complete the package, making the aging Live! card a brand new package.
Many competitive cards, such as Hoontech's SoundTrack Digital XG, have the X-Gamer beat in the digital connectivity department (thus check out the Live! Platinum), leaving the primary focus of the X-Gamer on both gaming and music. It seems in this case targeting individual sound markets has paid off for Creative Labs, giving each market segment more of what they really want.
It was hard to beat Creative Labs in the early days of ISA sound cards, and the same holds true today. With a DSP that is continuously upgraded and a developing system of positional audio, Creative is attempting to take the gaming community by storm and the X-Gamer is a good step in that direction. With an impressive list of features, excellent API support, and top-notch sound quality, the Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer is truly an excellent product.
