SGI (NYSE: SGI) today announced that it has extended the maximum system memory capacity for its IRIX® operating system-based Silicon Graphics® Octane® visual workstations by introducing the industry's first 2GB memory modules. The new memory modules can expand system memory up to a maximum of 8GB.The new 2GB memory modules are four times the capacity of the largest existing workstation DIMMs, which store 512MB of memory. These larger 2GB memory modules give Octane customers increased power to handle bigger data sets for more accurate analysis in less time. Octane systems powered by these new DIMMs can more efficiently run memory-intensive applications in power 3D design, simulation, scientific modeling, digital prototyping, real-time simulators, medical diagnosis, satellite imaging and oil and gas exploration.
