De aandelen Corel zijn gisteren flink omhoog geknald als gevolg van geruchten dat Corel mogelijk overgenomen zou worden door Red Hat:
Rumors swirled that North Carolina-based Linux firm Red Hat Inc. (NasdaqNM:RHAT - news) is looking at Corel as a possible acquisition target, traders said.``Corel's up quite strong on potential take-out rumors,'' said one equity trader.
Internet chat rooms were humming with gossip about Corel and some traders attributed the frantic activity to day traders who dive in when momentum is strong.
Fund manager Duncan Stewart cited rumors that Red Hat might look at buying Corel, but said he was loathe to put too much credence in the gossip.
``I have heard that Red Hat might buy Corel,'' said Duncan Stewart, fund manager at Tera Capital in Toronto. He said it wasn't outside of the realm of possibility, given that Linux firm Red Hat has been criticized for not having a strong distribution network -- something Corel could offer.
