Before getting into the inner workings of the Itanium, here is an overview of the details that have been recently made public:- Contains a 10 stage pipeline and EPIC design for increased parallel processing
- Contains 128 general purpose registers, 128 floating point registers, 64 predicate registers, and 8 branch registers.
- Includes 4 integer units and 2 floating point units
- Includes LI and L2 cache on chip
- Supports up to 4 MB of L3 cache, which is off chip but still in the Itanium package
- Capable of dealing with 16 GB of main memory
- It will initially ship with the 460GX chipset and use standard PC100 SDRAM at 100 MHz
