Ace's Hardware heeft een interessante follow-up gepost op de single CPU server benchmarks die zijn een aantal dagen geleden postten. Uit de benchmarks kwam de K6-III met 2Mb L3 cache erg goed naar voren, beter dan de véél duurdere Xeon. Ace's Hardware beredeneert wat het gebruik van Rambus DRAM voor gevolgen kan hebben voor server performance:
The L3-cache makes an incredible impact on the score of the K6-III. In other words, server and Internetserver applications are very sensible to the latency of the memory. The L3-cache has a low latency, but runs at the same speed as the SDRAMs. This could mean that RAMBUS PC800, with its higher latencies would be a pretty bad choice for a small server...
