Tomb Raider fans will be happy to hear that a recent print issue of Variety tips that the producers of the film adaptation of the video game are now targeting a Fall 2000 release date. Actresses along the lines of Heather Graham, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Hurley are being courted for the lead character Lara Croft, according to the trade. Charles Cornwall, Eidos chairman and an executive producer on the movie, has final casting and script approval.The most recent screenwriters attached to the project, Patrick Massett and John Zinman, delivered a story that begins where the third Tomb Raider game ends. Lara Croft pursues the Achilles Shield in Antarctica and Asia in an effort to thwart a super villain's attempt to gain world domination by harnassing the artifact's powers. Stephen Herek directs and Lawrence Gordon produces the film, which will have a budget in the area of $80 million.
