Videologic Neon 250 benchmarks

Tweak3D heeft een aantal Neon 250 (dat eindeloos gedelayde-maar-nu-toch-bijna-verkrijgbare PowerVRSG dingetje van NEC/Videologic) gepost:

A source close to Videologic sent me these genuine benchmarks for the upcoming PowerVR Neon250 board as part of a press release. Here's the info:

'After a long wait, PowerVR Series2 for the PC, in the guise of Neon250, will start shipping at the end of August.

The simple fact is that the Neon 250 is the fastest OpenGL gaming card on the planet. Running on the pre-production silicon (about 5% slower than production), and rather early drivers (all recent driver work has been happening on the production silicon), we're clocking the following numbers (in fps) in 16-bit on a PIII 500 with 128MB RAM:

Maar eerst vergelijkingen zien met G400MAX, V3 3500 en TNT2ultra!

Ziet er inderdaad wel grappig uit... maar voorlopig is m'n TNT2-tje nog we sneller! en niet zo'n klein beetje ook.. ruim 12 fps op 1152x864.....

Hartstikke leuk die cijfertjes. Maaruh, 16bit OpenGL?

En wat doet 'ie met d3d? 32bit? Waarschijnlijk 3x niks.

Hun vorige kaartje had zeer slechte driver ondersteuning, maar maakte wel gebruik van bijzondere technologie:
Door alleen te renderen wat zichtbaar was kon ie met een chipset uit 1996 met 4 mb geheugen een resolutie aan van 1024x768 met 24 bits kleur. Maar doordat het berekenen van wat er zichtbaar was door de cpu moest gebeuren werkte de kaart op toenmalige machines traag.

Op hun vorige kaartje hadden ze alleen d3d support + PowerSGL.
PowerSGL gebruikt niemand geloof ik behalve de fabrikant voor patches voor spelen. Ze hebben dus ervaring met D3d en lijkt het me niet onwaarschijnlijk dat ze dat ook gaan ondersteunen.
