One quality that all Aureal Vortex based cards share is excellent 3D sound for gaming. In the titles that support A3D 2.0, Aureal's proprietary 3D sound "language", the 3D effect is incomparable. Most notable is Half-Life, which is real enough to be eerie. Listening to shells bounce around behind you after they are ejected from a gun (and knowing exactly where they landed) is really phenomenal. Star Wars Pod Racer is another title that supports A3D 2.0, which makes for a a nice additional effect. The Aureal chipset is based around rendering the 3D audio, in similar fashion to 3D video cards.
