Nog meer interviews bij Gamecenter: onze grote vriend John Carmack is aan de beurt. Het gesprek gaat vooral over 3D videokaarten. John vind de TNT2 geweldig en over de V3 doet-ie minder blij:
GC: What do you think of the Voodoo 3?
J. C.: It's unfortunate that 3dfx supports only 16-bit color--which is a pretty significant limitation. I have a harder time recommending a Voodoo 3 to people. It does have the highest texel rate--of anything right now, even the TNT 2--in optimal conditions. But you have to really focus a benchmark to make that come out on top when there are these significant issues, like 24-bit color, which it just doesn't support; and then there are these annoying things like 256 [-pixel] maximum texture size. It's unfortunate. I'm on 3dfx's advisory board, and they've certainly been aware of my positions for a long time. 3dfx does deserve a lot of credit, because you almost never see a delta like they had--where they were four times faster than their competition. It's just a little unfortunate to see them kind of slip off the lead. They kicked so much ass with the Voodoo 2, but right now you just can't call them the best accelerator any more.
