FIC also plans to enter the consumer market with PDAs (personal data assistants) running on Microsoft-developed operating systems. In the past, FIC focused on the Linux open-source platform, but with more driver programs and applications supporting Microsoft operating systems, the Taiwanese company decided to make the switch.
Meanwhile, FIC officials denied rumors suggesting Hewlett-Packard (HP) has canceled desktop orders and plans to terminate their contract manufacturing partnership. According to sources, HP will reduce its number of contract manufacturers from the current 20 to about 7-8, and FIC, which is making servers and desktops for HP at the moment, will be eliminated.
