The 760vTFT does better than many LCDs at scaling up lower resolutions to full screen without unsightly jaggies or pixelation -- it's not the best at it we've seen (that would be a $2,500 Eizo), but when we first installed the monitor, it actually took us a minute to realize Windows was running at 1,024 by 768 instead of the preferable or native 1,280 by 1,024. Samsung also earns points for offering a choice of centered (black space around all four sides) and letterboxed (centered vertically, but stretched horizontally) viewing of lower-resolution screens.
[...] Nor did viewing angles give any cause for complaint -- although (as with the value-priced KDS flat panel we tested recently) we had to crane to one side to make out the darker color gradients in DisplayMate test patterns or details half-hidden in shadowed game screens. That, plus one stuck or dark pixel near the bottom left corner, kept the 760vTFT short of -- but, frankly, close to -- one of our very rare five-star ratings. If you've been thinking that entry-level XGA units are the only LCD monitor bargains, think again.
