Plextor.
Overall Lite-On's 16x DVD-ROM drive performed extremely well. No, let me restate that. The Lite-On drive is one of the best performing DVD-ROM drives I've seen to date. It was able to exceed it's rated 48x reading speed to blow away the other two drives here in the CD Speed tests. When extracting audio, it even makes the finest from Plextor look slow. This drive is the fastest single beam optical drive you can get to extract audio. Not only was it fast but the quality of the audio was first rate under normal conditions.
Let's not forget what this drive was designed primary for, and that is reading DVD's. Again, Lite-On didn't disappoint, but instead scored very well with data DVD's and blew away the others when extracting DVD video. Unfortunately the drive had a tendency to slow down quite a bit when accessing many parts of a CD and with some of the pressed media. This unfortunately gave it higher seek times and slower average transfer speeds in some of the tests. With all this to consider, is there any reason I should not give this drive's performance rating a perfect 10?
