Bigs wees ons op een kort stukje van the Inquirer, waarin wordt gemeld dat er nog geen einde is gekomen aan de prijsverlagingen op de processormarkt. Een aantal leveranciers van Intel-processoren hebben namelijk bericht gekregen dat ze rekening moeten houden met meer prijsverlagingen op 27 mei:
Distributors for Chipzilla have been told to expect more price changes on the 27th of May as part of Intel's rather complex plans to switch the basis of its revenue flow from Copperminks to Pentium 4s and Tualatins.
The Pentium 4 is unlikely to be cut again this month. On the 27th of May, however, Intel will take the axe to desktop processors including the 1GHz PIII, 933MHz PIII, and the Celeron 850, 800, 766, 733, and the 700MHz.
On the mobile front, 1GHz and 900MHz processors will be adjusted in price. As we reported here some time ago, there has been a shortage of the 1GHz mobile Pentium III, but roadmaps we published yesterday show .13 micron Tualatins in the mobile space from July onwards.
Zoals je kunt lezen, zou dit keer niet gaan op de Pentium 4, maar om de "normale" desktop en mobile CPU's. Dit is natuurlijk niet alleen goed nieuws voor Intel-gebruikers, want ook AMD zal nu waarschijnlijk wel snel volgen.
