User Error liet weten dat Gamers Depot een review in elkaar heeft gezet van de Iomega HipZip MP3 speler. Het bijzondere aan dit apparaatje is dat het geen gebruik maakt van duur flashgeheugen, maar van de vele malen goedkopere PocketZip schijfjes van 40MB. De HipZip wordt geleverd met software voor Windows en MacOS, en kan uitgebreid worden met ondersteuning voor muziekformaten die in de toekomst verschijnen. Helaas is de HipZip een stuk groter dan zijn concurrenten, en is het bijgeleverde oortelefoontje volgens Gamers Depot zonde van het gebruikte plastic

The sound quality of the HipZip, when not impaired by the crappy headphones it comes with, is rather good. We hooked the device right up to our reference speakers and played MP3’s which gave us good results. There are also bass and treble controls that we needed to set rather high to get good sound quality.
Overall, we are pleased with Iomega’s first foray into the MP3 player market, and feel that it should do rather well for them. It’s the first one we’ve reviewed that gives you the flexibility of mass storage that will only by limited by how many PocketZip disks you wish to buy. While it doesn’t have all the features you might be looking for, it does do well as a straight forward MP3 player that gives you essentially unlimited storage.
Het apparaatje kost zo'n 300 dollar, en de losse schijfjes hangen tussen de 10 en de 12 dollar in. De HipZip staat op dit moment echter nog niet in de pricewatch.
