The big advantage to the DVD-1040 Pro is the ability to read almost every format out in the market today. If you have any backed up data on a CD-R or CD-RW, the DVD-1040 Pro has no troubles reading this media. For some that have CD-ROMs that cannot read this type of media, and definite upgrade is in order.
Movies displayed on the DVD-1040 Pro are a real treat. Not once did it drop a frame, nor did it skip when switching layers. Since most DVD movies today have dual layers, the ability for a DVD-ROM drive to switch layers without noticing, is quite important in today’s DVD-ROM Drives. Each layer of a DVD disk holds approximately 90min of video, with movies running longer then 90min a second layer is used. A second layer is a big advantage when it comes to extras like trailers, deleted footage etc.
