Other than the name difference, the win386.swp and pagefile.sys files are virtually identical assuming you have them both set to the same, unchanging size. And, believe it or not, there is a way to convince the two OSes to share a single swapfile so as to save hard drive space. It’s pretty tough though, so unless you feel comfortable messing with some high level tweaks, stay away from this one – if you screw up, don’t hold me accountable. The key that we will be modifying is [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] – we will be changing the PagingFiles value. Om de volgende redenen:[/break] There are several benefits to gaming on Windows 2000. First, and foremost, is speed. The OS itself is about 20% faster than its cousin, which makes it ideal for gaming. This 20% speed gain is retained in most cases, assuming that the drivers for your hardware are mature and don’t have any bugs. Also, because Win2k is so much more stable than Win9x, if the game crashes, you can be pretty sure that it is the game's fault and not some weird interaction with your OS. And, of course, Win2k makes a superior server platform, so if you have got a high-bandwidth connection and are regularly hosting games for your friends, this may be the way to go.
