Western Digital heeft voor zijn TV HD Mediaplayer nieuwe firmware uitgegeven met 1.02.04 prerelease als de versieaanduiding. De ontwikkelaars van WD hebben met deze prerelease een hoop nieuwe mogelijkheden toegevoegd op basis van de wensen uit de community. De beknopte aankondiging ziet er als volgt uit:
We've received tremendous feedback on WD TV and some great suggestions to improve the product even more. In response to your requests, we're pleased to offer prerelease product enhancements to make your viewing experience better than ever. Updating your media player is simple. Just follow the instructions below, grab your remote and enjoy the show! This is a prerelease version of the firmware. Feel free to install it but be aware this is beta firmware so use it at your own risk. If you are not comfortable with this, please wait for the final version.

- Additional subtitle languages and decoding support
- Improved media playback and navigation
- More audio formats for MKV container
- Fixed bugs reported by the WD TV user community
How to Install the Product Update:
- Open the firmware update .ZIP file and extract the two files (.BIN and .VER) to a USB drive's main directory
- Turn the WD TV on and connect your USB drive
- Use the remote control to select SETTINGS from the home screen
- Highlight the firmware upgrade icon, and press ENTER on the remote
- You will be prompted to perform the firmware upgrade. Select OK and press ENTER. This will restart the system
- After restarting, the system automatically enters firmware upgrade mode
- Once the update process is completed, the HD media player will restart again
