Software-update: ratDVD 0.7.1235

Gisteren is ratDVD 0.7.1235 uitgekomen. Met dit programma kan een volledige DVD-9 film worden gecomprimeerd naar ongeveer 1GB met behoud van alle features van de dvd, zoals bijvoorbeeld menu's, verschillende kijkhoeken (angles), verschillende formaten van beeld (16:9, 4:3, Pan/Scan, WideScreen, Letterbox), etc. Hiervoor maakt het programma gebruik van het eigen .ratDVD-containerformaat. Ook is het mogelijk om van een .ratDVD weer terug op dvd te zetten. Meer informatie kan op deze pagina gevonden worden. Het changelog van deze release laat de volgende veranderingen zien:

Blijft de kwaliteit wel een beetje bewaard, of is dat helemaal niets als het gecromprimeerd wordt naar 1 gb?

Heb het programma zelf niet gebruikt, maar als ik zo de faq op de ratdvd site lees icm het forum van doom9;

Er wordt iig al gemeld dat ratDVD gebruik maakt van:

"It uses an in-codec scaler and the actual encoded picture size can vary in both dimensions between GOPs"
(dus: de codec verlaagt de resolutie van de video tijdens het omzetten naar ratDVD format)

ook vond ik:
a typical 262 MB AC-3 5.1 audio track to about 131 MB AC3-VS by encoding the multi channel audio signal into a 2 channel matrixed virtual surround system with multiple virtual channels on AC-3 basis.
(dus: stereo geluid met dolby surround (geen echte 5.1))

[Verwijderd]

Bij de vorige release in de meuktracker werd mijn kritische commentaar volledig weggemod, dus bij deze slechts de samenvatting: goed idee, en misschien wordt het in de toekomst nog echt bruikbaar, maar als je een klein bestand wilt, kun je beter xvid gebruiken en als je de beste kwaliteit wilt behouden, is CCE de enige optie.

Op dit moment alsjeblieft verre van blijven.
Vergelijk het met de eerste RealAudio bestanden (destijds: "wow, het klinkt bijna net zo goed als AM radio!") tegenover de cd-kwaliteit origineel, die bijna 10 jaar na dato, met lame-vbr toch heel wat lekkerder klinkt.
