Software-update: qBittorrent 5.3.0

Versie 5.3.0 van qBittorrent is verschenen. Deze open source torrentclient heeft versies voor Windows, Linux en macOS. Het programma wordt met Qt ontwikkeld en is gebaseerd op libtorrent (rasterbar) en Boost. Het programma is het geesteskind van de Fransman Christophe Dumez, die er sinds begin 2006 aan werkt. Tegenwoordig wordt het door de community onderhouden. Er zijn twee downloads beschikbaar. De ene bevat libtorrent 1.2, de andere versie 2.0. Voor de gebruikersinterface wordt van Qt6 gebruikgemaakt, wat betekent dat minimaal Windows 10 vereist is. De changelog voor deze uitgave kan hieronder worden gevonden.

Grappig, ik draai 5.1.0 en als ik "check for updates" aanklik is er geen update beschikbaar?

Vanaf die versie zijn ze uit hun account locked door fosshub en overgestapt naar sourceforge, je moest 5.1.1 vanaf de site downloaden en daarna werkte de update functie in het programma weer aangezien 5.1.0 updates opvraagt aan fosshub en die geen nieuwe versies heeft

Het veranderd toch geen dingen verder? alles wat ik zo heb staan blijft toch gewoon. IS het beter om voor de libtorrent 1.2.x te kiezen?

De standaard installer (libtorrent 2.1.x) is prima, maar als je veel seed is de 1.2.x versie beter momenteel. Er is namelijk een issue met de snelheid in 2.1.x

Kwestie van tijd dat het gefixt wordt en 1.2.x is een legacy versie van libtorrent.
De 1.2.x branch is tevens ook end-of-life en zal geen verdere updates meer krijgen.

De standaard installer van vorige versies had inderdaad 1.2.x. Er was al die tijd een aparte download voor 2.0.x en dat is nu omgedraaid. Sinds deze versie zijn ze als standaard overgegaan op 2.1.x en de reden dat ze 1.2.x zolang hebben ondersteund is dat 2.0.x verschillende problemen kenden die in 2.1.x grotendeels zijn opgelost.

Iemand op GitHub kan het merken bij 20+ torrents. Als je het safe wil spelen dan pak je voor nu de 1.2.x versie.

Soms hebben nieuwe versies een false positive, maar meestal is het smart screen dat het blokkeert ondanks het niet als virus wordt gezien. Ik wacht altijd een tijdje met updaten en dan is het lang genoeg door de windows molen geweest dat het niet meer als false positive opduikt of geblokkeerd wordt door smart screen

Inderdaad, idem op mijn Windows installaties, zeker bij net uitgekomen releases van qBittorrent. Soms ook bij andere applicaties, maar zo goed als altijd de eerste dag(en) bij qBittorrent om 1 of andere reden.

Versie 5.2.4 werd gezien als een virus maar alleen van bepaalde mirrors, eerdere en latere versies niet.
