Versie 8.2 van de webbrowser Vivaldi is uitgekomen. Vivaldi is een webbrowser die wordt ontwikkeld door voormalige werknemers van Opera. Hij richt zich voornamelijk op powerusers en gebruikers van Opera vóór de overstap op Chromium, hoewel ook deze browser daarop is gebaseerd. Vivaldi heeft uitgebreide mogelijkheden, zoals mousegestures, stapelen van tabbladen, uitgebreide keyboardshortcuts en het maken van aantekeningen op webpagina's. De browser is gratis en wordt voor Windows, Linux, macOS en Android ontwikkeld, en tegenwoordig ook voor iOS. Hieronder is te vinden wat er in deze uitgave allemaal veranderd is.
Built-in calculator in your Address FieldDividing the cost of a gift among friends, adding some numbers for a work report or calculating the grams of flour in a recipe…Who hasn’t been browsing and needed to do some quick math? Thanks to our new local calculator, you can do quick and private calculations, directly on the URL field. No need to switch apps or open new tabs. Click enter, and the result will get copied into your clipboard, so you can easily paste it wherever you need it.
Performing local calculations was already possible on our Quick Commands menu. But in true Vivaldi fashion, we now give you more ways to do it, so you can choose what works best for you. If you would rather not see these results on the Address Field, you can of course turn it off by going to Settings > Address Bar > Address Field Suggestions, and unchecking the “Local calculator” box.
PS. Don’t worry about how simple the math is. The calculations you perform on the URL field are safe from prying eyes and will not be saved anywhere, not even your History.
Better PWA discoverabilityProgressive Web Apps (PWAs) are websites that can be installed on your machine and run as separate apps, getting their own app icon on the dock and their own entry on the task switcher – all while being powered by Vivaldi. But how can you know which sites are PWAs? Before, the path to install a PWA was somehow buried in a context menu. Now, whenever a site offers a PWA, you’ll see an “Install” icon right in the Address Field, making its installation easier than ever.
You can see all your installed PWAs and their settings by going to vivaldi://apps. But if you ever forget you already had it installed, when you return to the same webpage, you’ll see an icon on the Address Field prompting you to open it in the app. And if you’re worried about storage space – don’t! It’s actually only a small manifest file and icon that’s actually downloaded; the app is running from the web server (or in-browser if the author has coded it to work offline).
At Vivaldi, we love the web because it works on any device and any operating system, and we believe apps should do the same. PWAs do just this – the universal reach of the Web, but with the look and feel of native apps.
