Software-update: VMware Workstation Pro 26H1

Broadcom heeft versie 26H1 van zijn virtualisatiesoftware Workstation Pro uitgebracht. Met dit programma is het mogelijk om een of meer virtuele computers aan te maken, waarop een groot aantal verschillende besturingssystemen kan worden geïnstalleerd. Op die manier kunnen ze naast elkaar worden gebruikt, in tegenstelling tot een dualbootopstelling, waarbij voor het ene of het andere OS moet worden gekozen. VMware Workstation is beschikbaar voor Windows en Linux, en sinds het in handen van Broadcom is gekomen is het voor iedereen gratis te gebruiken. Wel is een account nodig om het te kunnen downloaden en na inloggen kunnen de downloads hier worden gevonden. De changelog voor deze uitgave ziet er als volgt uit:

• All help buttons and URLs in the user interface navigate to the Broadcom Technical Documentation home page instead of the specific Workstation help page

Known Issues

• When upgrading VMware Workstation on Windows from an earlier version, if the new installation path is different from the old one, ISO image files from the earlier installation are not automatically removed. These files remain in the old installation directory, for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\windows.iso and continue to consume disk space.
  Workaround: Perform one of the following tasks.

  • Before upgrading, manually uninstall the earlier version of VMware Workstation and select the option to save product configuration.
  • After upgrading, manually navigate to the old installation directory and delete the ISO image files and their containing folders.

Nou, blij verbaasd: voor het EERST dat ik de download zonder veel omwegen kon bereiken op de website. Zonder door talloze digitale hoepeltjes te hoeven springen!

Ha, toevallig vorig weekend VMware geprobeerd te downloaden.

Uiteindelijk maar een of andere site bezocht die allerlei software aanbied om te downloaden, dat werkte sneller en handiger dan via de broadcom website.

Account aanmaken was ook een drama (nu weet ik niet of de site na het inloggen uit elkaar valt of dat mijn vmware account inactief was, want slecht werkende site).

Om te downloaden wel eerst de link met voorwaarden openen (en sluiten). Pas dan werkt de download knop...

Voor een tweaker is het toch niet al te moeilijk om een account (ook bij Broadcom) aan te maken.

Voor informatie die je wilt downloaden van een website van een bedrijf moet je vaak een account aanmaken en niet te vergeten als je wat op een website wilt bestellen (dat doen Tweakers toch okk ...).

Een account aanmaken is ook niet moeilijk, en met een directe link kom je inderdaad meteen bij de software uit. Software achter een account zetten is nog tot daar aan toe.

Helaas ben je er dan nog niet (of ik doe iets verkeerd), ook na het klikken op het download icoon moet er nog toestemming worden gegeven en moet er nog aanvullende info worden ingevuld zoals adres, woonplaats, bedrijfsnaam, postcode etc. als er iets niet ingevuld is, start de download alsnog niet.

Dat stoort mij persoonlijk echt het meest aan die hele broadcom site. Het is onderhand ontmoedigingsbeleid om via die website aan de update te komen. Nogmaals, als ik iets verkeerds doe en er is een andere manier, dan hoor ik het graag.
