Software-update: LibreOffice 24.8.2

De Document Foundation heeft de tweede update voor versie 24.8 van LibreOffice uitgebracht. Dit opensource-officepakket is ontstaan als afsplitsing van OpenOffice en wordt geleverd met tekstverwerker Writer, spreadsheetprogramma Calc, presentatieprogramma Impress, tekenprogramma Draw, databaseprogramma Base en Formula, een applicatie om wetenschappelijke notaties mee te maken. Versie 24.8.2 is een bugfixuitgave en kende twee releasecandidates, waarin in totaal 86 verbeteringen zijn aangebracht:

Ik overweeg om MS office vaarwel te zeggen en Libre Office lijkt me een goed alternatief.

Nu heb ik een aantal .xlsx en .xlsm bestanden. Kan ik die zonder problemen openen en bewerken in Libre Office? Ook als ze beveiligd zijn met een wachtwoord?

Of kan ik die bestanden beter converteren naar een universeler bestandsformat? Maar welke is dan het beste?

Ik zou het er gewoon naast installeren en uitproberen; het hangt er een beetje vanaf hoe 'geavanceerd' de bestanden zijn. Er worden bijna bij iedere versie nog wel compatibiliteitsissues opgelost; maar het zijn niet de basale zaken.

Probeer eerst een portable versie. Staat die je aan, dan kan je definitief installeren.

Gebruik zelf nooit office maar mijn vader had niets dan problemen met Libreoffice.
De helft van de bestanden die Libreoffice opende kreeg hij de vraag of hij het bestand wilde repareren.
Als hij voor repareren koos bleef Libreoffice hangen en als hij voor niet repareren koos opende het bestand gewoon.
Kon nergens vinden hoe ik dit uit kon zetten.

Nadat ik Onlyoffice voor hem installeerde heb ik nooit meer klachten gehad.
Onlyoffice ziet er naar mijn mening beter uit en geeft geen problemen:

In de conversie van je documenten kan je 2 paden bewandelen: msOffice kan het open-document formaat ook aan, het zou zelfs het standaard bestand formaat moeten zijn als je een klik-klak-klaar installatie doet.

Het is mijn ervaring dat LibreOffice beter om kan gaan met msOffice formaten, zowel de oude als de nieuwe. En dan LibreOffice het in haar standaard formaat bewaren.

Uiteindelijk hoef je niets om te zetten, zeker als het om oude (archief) documenten gaat. Al is het voor nu actief gebruikte (bewerkte) documenten wel handig om het om te zetten.

Ik heb sinds gisteren weer iets geleerd van Libre Office, door even iets verder te kijken dan mijn neus normaal gesproken lang is.

Ik gebruik in Calc altijd spreadsheets met achtergrond- en letterkleurtjes die ik dagelijks met elkaar verwissel, waarbij ik tot gisteren veelvuldig gebruik maakte van de optie 'Recente kleuren'. Helaas worden die recente kleuren om de haverklap gereset (gewist) sinds ik Libre Office versie 24.8.1.2 heb.

Maar nu ben ik er achter gekomen dat ik die functie helemaal niet nodig heb. In plaats daarvan gebruik ik nu onder 'Tekstkleur' in het dropdownmenu de optie 'Documentkleuren' in plaats van 'standard'. Dat werkt namelijk altijd om even snel het juiste kleurtje aan te klikken.

Zo handig dat dat er in zit!

Overigens heb ik Libre Office afgelopen donderdagmiddag nog aangeraden aan een collega die er nog nooit van gehoord had, maar geen zin meer heeft in een betaalde Microsoft Office, maar wel behoefte had aan een up-to-date officepakket.

De meest recente LO release is 24.8.2.

Ik gebruikte het in mijn studies. De samenwerking met Zotero (bibliografie software) is subliem, en mij viel op dat voor academisch schrijven sommige functies of gimmicks veel beter in elkaar steken dan bij MS Word.
MS Office heb ik nooit intuïtief gevonden. En ik heb ondertussen al veel pakketten gehad: WordPerfect, Atari Works, RagTime, Claris Works, Apple Works, LaTeX+TEXShop...

Dit opensource-officepakket is ontstaan als afsplitsing van OpenOffice […]

De naam van die software was eigenlijk voluit ‘OpenOffice.org’.

Dat kwam omdat ‘Open Office’ een handelsmerk was van een Amsterdams bedrijf (Open Office Automatisering), en de kantoorsoftware dus niet zonder meer die naam mocht gebruiken.
