Software-update: MailEnable Standard 1.72

MailEnable Standard is een freeware applicatie waarmee op een eenvoudige manier een mailserver kan worden opgezet. Ondersteuning voor POP3, SMTP en een Listserver is aanwezig en voorzien van een uitgebreide beheersapplicatie waarmee alles tot in de puntjes kan worden ingesteld. Alle beschikbare functies worden hier op overzichtelijke wijze getoond en hier kan men een screenshot bekijken van de beheersapplicatie. Versie 1.72 is onlangs uitgebracht door het ontwikkelteam en heeft het volgende changelog meegekregen:

Added:

• Delivery events for mailboxes
• SMTP outbound queue in administration program shows retry count and reason for last failure
• CAPA command for POP service
• MTA can do address map casting
• Can set the delay notification to never, once only, every time through the admin program
• Can set the maximum outbound message size in the admin program
• In the postoffice connector admin configuration you can specify who gets quota notifications
• Can use a wildcard in the reverse DNS whitelisting
• ClientIP address added to command files
• Can set the thread count for MTA in admin program
• Option to fix headers (add Message-ID/Date if missing) for authenticated senders is in SMTP options
• POP service can now listen on alternate port
• Can set the first, second, third, subsequent retry delay for SMTP
• Option to SMTP to force authenticated users to use an email address they own
• Install and reinstall will not now not generally force a reboot of server

Changed:

• Removed message retry count in SMTP options as it isn't needed
• Must have a postmaster address for a domain when configuring from administration program
• SMTP will not save incomplete messages by default
• For password protected list, the password can appear anywhere in subject, and the full subject is retained
• Postoffice connector is a lot faster delivering emails to large mailboxes that have no quota

Fixed:

• List server was skipping footer if no header
• Admin will warn when you reach the limit of redirections for mailbox
• SMTP is more strict on email addresses being passed to it
• Postoffice TAB provider could write out long redirection address list, but could not read it
• Postoffice TAB provider could write out long group address list, but could not read it
• Messages put in SMTP outbound queue directly will be checked to see if they are to a local domain
• Diag shows queue errors now, and improvements to warnings
• Admin will only count MAI files in inbox
• Message list for mailbox in admin displays the most recent messages sorted
• SMTP logs outbound smarthost authentication attempts
• POP service does not lock log files if they are not in use
• MTA would only process one filter DLL
• Can specify the external email addresses for a group
• MTA/Postoffice connector speed improvements
• Groups must have an external address for admin program
• Possible truncation of lines if they were very long
• Domain addition in admin was saying you need a postoffice, but still continued
• Some subject lines could cause list server to crash
• Editing list options for a new list before closing dialog wasn't saving the options
• Postoffice connector could crash on some corrupted recipient addresses
• List server was not detecting all boundaries, so would not add header or footer to some emails
• Domain literals were not being accepted for some relay configurations
• SMTP could crash for some malformed and long recipient addresses
• MEInstaller sets more permissions explicitly to avoid access errors
• Message-ID header was not being added to all notification messages
• Fixing message headers for authenticated senders available (Message-ID/Date)
• Whitelist for reverse DNS blacklists was not working
• MTA will bad mail messages now if they have no content
• Deleting messages in mailbox properties in admin was not refreshing size/bar graph
• Admin program will show whether a service is disabled, instead of just stopped
• MEInstaller will restore the required session state which the MS Lockdown tool may remove
• Setting 0 for unlimited message size was producing error message in admin
• Cannot enter 0 for max deliver time in MTA admin now as this will cause problems
• SMTP return and send code discrepencies addressed
• SMTP inbound service was timing out on inbound messages which had null characters in the last line
• Groups were only sending to the first 300 members
• SMTP domain splitting for emails could incorrectly send to same server
• MEInstaller was resetting permissions and taking long time to install on big installations
• List of messages for mailbox in admin was only showing 1 message when over 200 items in inbox
• Disabling SMTP commands is working
• SMTP wasn't retrying for some return codes
• Can use . as alternate character in POP usernames

Dit is echt een super mailserver. Ken je de MMC tools van microsoft een beetje, dan kan je hier direct mee werken. Configuratie is een eitje!

Echt een aanrader voor een simpele snel te configureren mailserver.

Is het normaal dat je een virus waarschuwing krijgt als je de diagnostische tool start?

Ik heb een tijd geleden nog gezocht naar freeware SMTP servers, en deze zijn niet in overvloed te vinden. Deze ziet er best leuk uit.

Is deze een beetje veilig wat betreft relaying?
Het lijkt me wel wat om deze eens te proberen. Of is de server van Pegasus beter?

Relaying alleen voor local users mogelijk dus werkt vrij aardig, draai hem al zeker een jaar zonder problemen.

Noem eens één gratis mailserver die uitgebreider is!

Ik kan niet anders zeggen als dat ik zeer tevreden ben over MailEnable. Ik gebruik het tevens binnen mijn hosting bedrijfje en ik heb nog nooit klachten gehad.

Deze update bewijst maar weer dat de mensen van MailEnable niet stil zitten! Enige dat ik nog mis is een ingebouwd spamfilter en een betere intergratie met mijn Symantec Antivirus Server.

Ik zie dat de Pro versie 'Support for 3rd party Anti-Virus' heeft met Norton ondersteuning en dat de Enterprise 'Enhanced Anti-Spam facilities' heeft.

De prijs van een paar honderd dollar is een klein prijsje als je het vergelijkt met anderen. Ipswitch mail vind ik een mooie en die is ook al snel 1500 dollar.
Ik zal deze in de gaten houden. Het klinkt als een interessant produkt.
