Software-update: WinRAR 3.30 final

RarLab, bouwer van het populaire compressie-programma WinRAR, heeft vandaag na vijf beta's de Final van WinRAR 3.30 online gezet. De software bevat een hoop verbeteringen die hier allemaal op een rijtje staan:

1. New "Scan archive for viruses" command unpacks an archive to temporary folder and checks its contents with antivirus software installed on a user's computer.

2. New "Generate report" command creates a report containing the list of usual or archived files. You may optionally include a file size, date and CRC to report, choose the sort order, save report to file, send it to printer or copy to clipboard.

3. New "Benchmark and hardware test" command allows to compare performance of RAR compression algorithm on different computers and detect possible errors caused by hardware failures.

4. New "Print file" command is able to print both archived and usual files.

5. New "Tools" menu contains "Wizard", "Show information", "Convert archives", "Find files", "Repair", "Convert to SFX" commands previously available in "Commands" menu and new "Scan archive for viruses", "Generate report", "Benchmark and hardware test" commands.

[Meer][break]De nieuwe versie van de software is hier op te halen. Ook WinRAR's multi-platform broertje RAR is in de nieuwe versie verschenen voor onder andere Linux en MacOS X.

Handige nieuwe optie:

Using "Benchmark and hardware test" command you may compare performance of RAR compression algorithm on different computers and detect possible compression errors caused by hardware failures. This command generates random data, which contain specially introduced redundancy increasing load to processor and memory. Then data are passed through RAR compression and decompression algorithms and output of decompression algorithm is compared with source data. If any difference found, WinRAR reports "Errors found - Yes" in the command window.

Ik zie vaak voorbijkomen dat mensen denken 'corrupte' rar bestanden hebben of algemene problemen met rar/zip. Met deze functie kan men dus testen of WinRAR geen errors ontdekt die door de PC zelf worden gemaakt.

En mijns inziens, naast een leuke benchmark, ook een goede stabiliteitstest voor je overgeklokte systeem.

Zouden ze bij deze versie er wel voor gezorgd hebben dat je met bijvoorbeeld versie 2.71 de archievs nog kan openen? Desnoods met een te selecteren optie "compatibility mode" of zo???

Ik snap dat ook niet nee, maar aldus de oude logs is het compressie verhouding ook zo gebleven... dus waarom idd niet compatiblity mode?
