Microsoft heeft als onderdeel van zijn december beveiligingsupdate MS15-131 ook Office 2016 voor Mac voorzien van een update. Office 2016 voor Mac bevat naast Word, PowerPoint, Excel en Outlook ook het notitieprogramma OneNote. De update van het kantoorpakket voor OS X, die het versienummer naar 15.19.1 optilt, wordt in losse downloads per module aangeboden, die in grootte variëren van 393 tot 925MB. Deze update wordt overigens ook via de Microsoft AutoUpdate aangeboden en in dat geval kan de download kleiner zijn. De veranderingen in deze uitgave worden als volgt vermeld in KB3134241:
OutlookWord
- The keyboard shortcut for Forward message (Command+J) has been restored.
- When you move a message to another folder, its status as "read" or "unread" is now maintained.
- The Search tab on the ribbon appears only during searches but not when you are switching views.
- The Cancel Meeting command on the ribbon now works correctly.
- Message list filters on the View menu now work correctly.
- The sender's email address is now displayed on the email header. For messages that are sent from the same Exchange domain, only the sender's name is displayed.
PowerPoint
- More commands (such as New, Print, and Save) are added to the Quick Access toolbar in the upper-left corner of the window.
- When you print to PDF, the file name is now retained so that the name is not displayed as "Untitled.pdf."
- Old format document (.doc) files that are hosted on an NFS share will open as read-only.
Excel
- You can apply the Morph transition to easily move several objects at once.
- More commands (such as New, Print, and Save) are added to the Quick Access toolbar in the upper-left corner of the window.
- Old format presentation (.ppt) files that are hosted on an NFS share will open as read-only.
- More commands (such as New, Print, and Save) are added to the Quick Access toolbar in the upper-left corner of the window.
- Old format workbook (.xls) files that are hosted on an NFS share will open as read-only.

Dit soort software is al heel lang uitontwikkeld en meer features maken het vaak alleen maar complexer, of gewoon anders omdat het anders moet zodat er nieuwe versies uitgebracht kunnen worden. Hopelijk heeft Microsoft niet weer de hele user interface omgegooid.
