Als kerstcadeau kregen we van Linus Torvalds kernel 2.5.53 en als nieuwjaarscadeau krijgen we de versgebakken kernel 2.5.54. In deze nieuwe versie zijn vooral kleine euvels verholpen, zoals de Linux-goeroe ons laat weten:

kernel patch is _just_ the medication for whatever ails you.
The 2.5.54 patch is largely mainly a big collection of various small
things, all over the place (diffstat shows a long list of small changes,
with some noticeable activity in UML, the MPT fusion driver and some of
the fbcon drivers).
Various module updates (deprecated functions, updated loaders etc), usb,
m68k, x86-64 updates, kbuild stuff etc etc.

Als je tijdens het compilen niks te doen hebt, kun je uiteraard het changelog van buiten leren. Uiteraard kun je ook de patch gebruiken om je kernel te upgraden. Naast de gebruikelijke tarballs, kun je tevens gebruik maken van de kernel en patch in de vorm van Bzip2
