Software-update: Mozilla Thunderbird 13.0.1

De Mozilla Foundation heeft een update voor Thunderbird versie 13.0 uitgebracht. Mozilla Thunderbird is een opensource-client voor mail en nieuwsgroepen, met features als ondersteuning voor verschillende mail- en newsaccounts, een junkmailfilter, spellingscontrole en een aanpasbaar uiterlijk. Versie 13 is gebaseerd op de nieuwste versie van Mozilla Gecko, wat onder andere tot betere prestaties moet leiden. Nieuw is verder dat voor grote bijlagen van een onlineopslagdienst gebruikgemaakt kan worden. Verder kan er een e-mailadres worden aangemaakt en er zijn natuurlijk weer een hoop bugfixes doorgevoerd. In versie 13.0.1 zijn de volgende problemen verholpen:

• YouSendIt no longer expires Filelinks after 1 week
• The prompt given when a password had changed sometimes referred to a network error rather than a change of password
• Some Linux users may have been unable to start Thunderbird from outside the installation directory
• Miscellaneous other stability and display updates

Known Issues

• If you are unable to view content for your RSS feeds in the Wide View Layout, you may need to disable the Lightning Calendar add-on if you have it installed or switch to Classic View and restart Thunderbird. (see 531397)
• Running TB 12 with local mail folders and pop3 mail filters may produce summary files that aren't correctly read by previous versions of Thunderbird. If you decide to go back to a previous version of Thunderbird after running TB 12, you should delete the .msf files for your local folders and pop3 accounts, or repair the folders using the folder properties dialog, to avoid potential data loss.

Met deze extensie voeg je Dropbox toe aan de Filelinkfunctie: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/...bird-filelink-dropbox.xpi

Voor Thunderbird 14 staat Ubuntu One en Spideroak en een voortgangsbalk op de planning.

Voor studenten/onderzoekers zou eigenlijk nog een add-on moeten komen voor Surfnet FileSender. Deze dienst van Surfnet maakt het mogelijk bestanden tot 100 GB te versturen en zolang je op een universiteit of hogeschool bent gaat dat echt heel snel met uploaden en downloaden.

Ik hoop dat ze ook Microsoft SkyDrive gaan ondersteunen voor Filelinks. Of gewoon een willekeurig FTP account, dan kan ik gewoon de homepage ruimte bij mijn provider gebruiken.
