Software-update: Mozilla Thunderbird 157.0

De Mozilla Foundation heeft versie 157.0 van Thunderbird uitgebracht. Thunderbird is een opensourceclient voor e-mail en nieuwsgroepen met ondersteuning voor verschillende mail- en newsaccounts. Verder zijn er een spamfilter, spellingscontrole, kalender en adresboek, en heeft het een aanpasbaar uiterlijk. Thunderbird is beschikbaar in twee verschillende versies, die beide als stabiel worden aangeduid. De eerste wordt vaker voorzien van nieuwe functionaliteit en wordt als Release-versie aangeboden; de andere, de Extra Support Release-versie, wordt alleen van bugfixes en stabiliteitsverbeteringen voorzien. In deze uitgave zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

• Yahoo emails appeared blank with MIME handlers disabled via mailnews.display.disallow_mime_handlers
• Pending moves within the same IMAP account could make messages disappear
• Inline images could disappear after editing and resaving drafts
• SMTP OAuth2 failed when large access token exceeded command line length limit
• Gmail OAuth2 authentication could intermittently fail on Windows
• Exchange NTLM authentication failed when updated passwords were not saved
• SMTP AUTH LOGIN could fail after username challenges and close the connection
• AppUpdatePin policy did not prevent Thunderbird from updating beyond pinned version
• Recurring events could appear after their configured end date
• CalDAV task body could remain outdated after syncing changes from another client
• CalDAV invitations could fail when accepted before the calendar synced

Alternatief voor Outlook

[The Zep Man]

Dat ligt eraan waarvoor je Outlook gebruikt.

Outlook enkel als IMAP+SMTP-client en lokale contacten en kalenders (of met CalDAV/CardDAV-plugins)? Thunderbird is een alternatief.

Ben je afhankelijk van een Exchange server zonder IMAP+SMTP? Tenzij je een techneut bent en veel tijd hebt, zou ik het bij (classic) Outlook houden.

Ik gebruik Thunderbird al sinds jaar en dag ook als mijn corp-mailclient. Deze werkt prima met de OWL plugin als admins IMAP en SMTP hebben uigeschakelt of als je modern-authentication wordt afgedwongen. Alleen als er beleid is dat je Thunderbird niet _mag_ gebruiken werkt het niet. Heel irritant dat het kan...dat is wel het nadeel van die vendor lockin protocols van MS.
