Er is een nieuwe bètarelease uitgebracht van NewsLeecher versie 5.0. Met dit programma is het mogelijk om op een eenvoudige manier bestanden uit nieuwsgroepen te downloaden. Het programma ondersteunt nzb-bestanden, beschikt over een SuperSearch, en kan gedownloade bestanden automatisch op integriteit en volledigheid controleren, en vervolgens zelfstandig uitpakken. Nieuw in versie 5.0 is onder andere dat er tabs zijn toegevoegd aan de SuperSearch. Verder is er nu een SuperSearch Watchdog en er wordt aan gewerkt om de gebruikersinterface te verbeteren. Het changelog voor deze release laat de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen zien:

- Smaller improvements. (Info message shown, when clicking the 'Connections View' compacting button for the first time, bumped the maximum number of stored filter entries in the filter dropdowns from 30 to 99, etc.)
- Fixed bug from previous beta that sometimes caused NewsLeecher to activate the wrong groups, when double clicking the groups navigation panel.
- Fixed bug from previous beta that prevented the deletion of bookmarks and recent SuperSearch entries in the SuperSearch bookmark view.
- Fixed bug from previous beta where changing the 'days' value for search entry in the SuperSearch bookmark view, didn't always work.
- Fixed bug where NewsLeecher would unpause PAR2 index files when added to the queue as 'Paused', if the 'PAR2 Quick Download' option was enabled.
- Fixed another download pausing logic bug, that, when the 'PAR2 Quick Download' option was enabled, would unpause PAR2 index files when added to the queue, even though the PAR2 file name returned a 'hit' when checked against the transfer queues subject pausing filter.
- Fixed bug where the article keyword highlighter didn't always work properly when some specific characters were part of the article name.
