Software-update: Boxee 0.9.21 bèta

Boxee is platformonafhankelijke mediacentersoftware met een sociaal tintje. Het programma kan natuurlijk audio- en videobestanden afspelen, maar voegt daar ook sociale interactie met andere Boxee-gebruikers aan toe. Zo kunnen Boxee-vrienden je activiteiten volgen en kan je bepaalde content aanbevelen. De ontwikkelaars hebben enkele dagen geleden bètaversie 0.9.21 met verschillende buildnummers uitgebracht. Zo heeft de Mac OS X-versie buildnummer 0.9.21.11497 meegekregen, de Linux-versie draagt nummer 0.9.21.11487 en de Windows-versie heet officieel 0.9.21.11487. De lijst met veranderingen voor bètaversie 0.9.21 ziet er als volgt uit:

• File Identification Progress
  Easily see how many files Boxee is scanning, has identified, and doesn't recognize within your media shares. Check the status from any menu sidebar (TV shows, Movies, Music) or from the Media menu (Settings -> Media).
• Manual Movie & TV Show identification
  Help Boxee identify your personal media by telling it what's in your collection. To change incorrectly labeled media select the movie or TV show, then click the eject icon on the right of the pop-up menu. Find and identify unresolved files by going to the "Files" menu, and selecting the "unresolved" folder at the bottom of the list. Select files and follow the instructions above to label them properly. You'll now be able to put in movie names, and TV show seasons and episodes to ensure your collection is pristine.
• Facebook & Twitter in your Boxee feed
  In addition to pushing out your recommendations to social networks, you can now also pull in recommendations from your friends on Facebook & Twitter. Shared videos appear automatically in your feed with an icon on the right to let you know where they came from. Set up this new option in your service settings for Facebook & Twitter.
• New & Improved RSS Management
  We've created a brand new way to manage, discover and play RSS feeds in Boxee. First, check out the new management & discovery console on our website. Search, arrange by category or sort through the most popular, top rated, new, and HD feeds available on Boxee. Then use the RSS feeds app to play back your favorites.

Info voor alle Mac gebruikers

De laatste versie van XBMC/PLEX/BOXEE ( de SVN) heeft support voor de hardware API h264 decoder van apple.

Wat houd dit in :

Full HD MKV support voor alle Nvidia 9400M of hoger GPU's.

Dit betekend dat je op een mac mini 1080p films kan afspelen met 18% CPU gebruik.

Dit programma vereist dus kennelijk het aanmaken van een account voordat je het kunt gebruiken. Wat mij betreft is dat een duidelijk minpunt. Er zijn genoeg andere mediacenters te downloaden waarbij je niet eerst een account moet aanmaken. Het nut van het account is mij ook niet echt duidelijk.

Ja klopt, maar dat komt omdat ze je dan kan connecten met bijv. Facebook en Flickr (voor foto's bijvoorbeeld) etc. Eenmaal aangemaakt zie je wel dat Boxee erg makkelijk in gebruik is. Daarom deze geïnstalleerd bij mn ouders in plaats van XBMC. Helaas heeft Boxee geen mooie iTunes integratie (vooral bij MacOSX een plus, zoals bij Plex wel het geval is).

Dat account heeft het voordeel (voor mij). Dat ik op internet een youtube filmpje (of andere site, er worden er steeds meer ondersteund) kan toevoegen aan mijn playlist. Kom ik thuis dan klik ik direct het filmpje aan (uit de queue) en speelt Boxee het fullscreen af.

Verder kan je met vrienden films(filmpjes) delen. Dat is het sociale karakter van deze specifieke mediacenter software.

Er staat ook duidelijk bij, met een sociaal tintje. Ik neem aan dat dit inhoud dat het allemaal Web 2.0 applicaties zijn(b.v Hyves, facebook, twitter). Zo heb je maar een main account voor verschillende subaccounts.
