Ritlabs heeft met versie 4.2.33 een nieuwe uitgave van zijn e-mailprogramma The Bat beschikbaar gesteld. Het programma biedt ondersteuning voor verschillende pop3- en imap4-accounts en heeft een Bayesiaans spamfilter en uitgebreide zoek- en filtermogelijkheden. The Bat is verkrijgbaar in de smaken Home en Professional Edition, waarbij studenten en non-profit-organisaties korting op de aanschafprijs krijgen. Thuisgebruikers moeten zoals gebruikelijk ook hun International Pack bijwerken. Het verschil tussen de Pro- en Home-edities wordt op deze pagina uit de doeken gedaan. Het changelog van deze release ziet er als volgt uit:

- Added a new registry key "DisplayCommandLine" (DWORD). Set it to "1" to let The Bat! display the command line on startup. This may be useful when you are having difficulties in using The Bat! command-line parameters.
Fixed:
- Added a workaround for a potential erroneous birthday entry in the address book.
- Significantly reduced CPU load during POP3 sessions. This essentially improves speed of retrieving messages on computers with slow CPU and fast connection (e.g. Ethernet) to the POP3 server.
- Fixed a spell-checker related AV on exit
