Software-update: Flip4Mac 2.3.0.14

Telestream heeft alweer enkele dagen geleden met 2.3.0.14 als het versienummer een nieuwe versie van Flip4Mac uitgebracht. Hiermee kunnen Mac OS X-gebruikers audio- en videobestanden die geëncodeerd zijn in een Windows Media-formaat afspelen en bewerken in een Quicktime-applicatie, afhankelijk van welke uitgave men gebruikt. De gratis te gebruiken 'player' wordt ook door Microsoft uitgegeven onder de naam Windows Media Components for Quicktime. De lijst met aanpassingen voor deze laatste versie ziet er als volgt uit:

Changes in this Release

• Added support for Apple’s Mac OS X Snow Leopard. While support for the latest OS is good news, we’d like you to be aware of some changes in Snow Leopard that affect Flip4Mac WMV (see Flip4Mac WMV FAQs for more details):
  • QuickTime Player X has removed export functionality to all formats other than standard Apple formats, including WMV. If you need this functionality, Apple continues to provide QuickTime Player 7.
  • In Safari 4, Flip4Mac WMV runs with limited functionality.
  • Safari 4 now runs in 64-bit mode by default, which causes Flip4Mac WMV to run with limited functionality. However, you have the option to run Safari in 32-bit mode.
• Local files now import in the background by default so that your movie is available for viewing almost immediately. If you prefer the previous behavior, this can be changed on a per-application basis in Flip4Mac WMV by going to System Preferences > Flip4Mac WMV > Player and clicking the Advanced button.
• The installer also includes a browser plug-in for Microsoft® Silverlight™, which allows you to play Smooth Streaming video content. This is installed by default. To disable its installation, click the Customize button on the Installation Type pane and uncheck the Microsoft Silverlight Plug-in option.

Fixes in this Release:

• Fixed bug that prevented ASX streams from playing in Firefox 3.
• Other miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Known Web Browser Issue:

• When using Safari 4 and Firefox 3.5, your browser experience is going to be different.

Ik heb dit sinds snow leopard achterwege gelaten (aangezien het toen niet werkte afaik) en heb het sindsdien niet meer gemist. Kan iemand me naar een site oid navigeren waar je deze elende (in alles behalve windows red. ) codec nog nodig hebt?

Tijdens de Snow Leopard release was er al een beta beschikbaar die gewoon prima werkte.
Deze werkt ook weer prima, als in ik ondervindt er geen problemen mee.

De uitzendinggemist site heeft hem nodig, maar op die site kun je ook gewoon het QuickTime formaat kiezen, zodat je hem daar dus niet verplicht hoeft te gebruiken.

Je kan voor uitzending gemist nu ook silverlight gebruiken. Dat is nieuw sinds vorige week je kan de juiste plugin downloaden mij Microsoft. Dan heb je een goed werkende player in je browser voor uitzendinggemist.

Microsoft probeert opnieuw stiekem een plugin te piggybacken met een installer .... wat boeit mij silverlight nu als ik gewoon wmv's wil afspelen.

Als ik een wmv wil afspelen installeer ik flip4mac, als ik een silverlight applicatie wil gebruiken installeer ik de silverlight plugin, voor mij hoeft het echt niet samen ... en dan nog by default ... jammer, andersom zou ik er al minder een probleem van maken.
