De AbiSource-community heeft de zesde ontwikkelversie uitgebracht van wat uiteindelijk versie 2.8 van AbiWord gaat worden. AbiWord is een opensource-tekstverwerker voor Windows en Linux. Het programma is in staat om diverse documentformaten te openen en te bewerken, waaronder die van Microsoft Word, OpenOffice.org en Wordperfect, plus reguliere rtf-documenten. Verder kan de functionaliteit van Abiword met plugins en woordenboeken worden uitgebreid. Hieronder zijn de veranderingen te vinden die in deze release zijn aangebracht:

- Add native JPEG image support (no internal conversion to PNG is done anymore).
- Improve the Office Open XML (".docx") import filter by supporting bookmarks, columns, endnotes, fields, footnotes, hyperlinks, images, lists, tab stops, tables (and formatting) and text boxes. Also improve the export filter to support tab stop leaders, table background colors and table border sizes.
- Support page-anchored textboxes and images, and import them from OpenDocument files.
- Be less strict when trying to load broken AbiWord, OpenDocument and RTF files.
- Improve positioned object handling when moving them around or wrapping text around them.
