Software-update: AIM for Mac 1.5 bèta 4

AOL is bezig met het ontwikkelen van een nieuwe Mac-versie van AIM, zijn instant-messengerprogramma. Het ontwikkelteam heeft vorig jaar de draad weer opgepakt om de 4.7-versie uit begin 2004 op te frissen. Mac-gebruikers hebben het jarenlang moeten stellen zonder de functies die in de loop der tijd wel aan de AIM Windows-versies waren toegevoegd. De lijst met veranderingen voor deze vierde bètaversie van AIM for Mac 1.5 ziet er als volgt uit:

During the past 3 betas, we've brought a host of new features to AIM for Mac 1.5:

• AIM conversation logging with Spotlight searching
• Growl notification support
• Custom Buddy Icons from your iSight camera or a graphic file on your Mac
• A new Welcome Window
• Custom Group Row colors
• You can also see if your Buddies updated their social network status from a variety of social networks and RSS feeds.

We've even optimized AIM for Mac's file size (it's now 30% smaller than AIM for Mac 1.1) and fixed a bunch of bugs and resolved connectivity issues. Please take a look at the Fixed Issues and Changes list and please continue to send feedback.

Note for Beta 2 Users: Users testing Beta 3 will be able to use the automated upgrade system (AIM>Check for Updates...). Users moving up from Beta 2 will need to download AND install Beta 4 directly using the 'Download Beta 4' button above.

Bugs Fixed:

• Fixed group renaming issue. You can now rename AIM Blast groups (http://blast.aim.com/).
• Fixed error message when encountering an issue during file transfer.
• Fixed occasional crash when inviting users to Buddy Chat.
• Fixed bug when displaying Buddy Icon image in AIM conversation logs.
• Various bug fixes and optimizations.

Other Changes:

• Updated Welcome Window.
• Improved the Edit Buddy window user experience.
• The screen name, password, save in Keychain, and auto sign in fields are disabled during sign in.
• Inline group name editing was enabled.

Hoewel de mensen die iChat gebruiken met een @mac.com adres, gebruiken AIM. Dat is tenminste wel wat ik altijd te zien krijg als ik met Nimbuzz op m'n iPhone inlog op m'n @mac.com adres.

Omdat Apple met de mac.com adressen gebruikt maakt van AIM zie ik ook het nut van dit programmatje niet echt in. iChat is een heerlijk chatprogramma, dus waarom dat niet gebruiken?

Maar de @mac.com adressen bestaan toch niet meer, sinds Mobile Me (welke @me.com gebruikt)?

Klopt, maar die van voor het MobileMe tijdperk zijn nog steeds actief. Ik heb ook een verlopen .Mac account van 5 jaar oud die ik nog dagelijks gebruik voor iChat.

Je kan nog altijd @mac.com adressen aan maken voor iChat maar deze kunnen voor niets anders gebruikt worden + als apple account voor de website

Voor AIM op Mac lun je net zo makkelijk iChat gebruiken. Dat wordt standaard met elke mac meegeleverd. Of mis ik iets en heeft dit nog specifieke voordelen?

Nee want het is een AIM client... je kunt er helemaal niet mee MSN'en.
