Vandaag is er met versienummer 8.1 een nieuwe versie van Jalbum verschenen. Met dit programma kunnen op eenvoudige wijze professioneel uitziende html-fotoalbums worden gegenereerd en bewerkt. In een overzichtelijke gebruikersinterface kunnen foto's simpel worden aangepast, kan de volgorde worden gewijzigd, het uiterlijk van de webpagina worden bepaald en kan via de ingebouwde ftp-client het resultaat op een homepage worden geplaatst. De software wordt ontwikkeld in Java en is daardoor verkrijgbaar voor een groot aantal verschillende besturingssystemen.
Nieuw in deze release is de toevoeging van widgets, die het mogelijk maken om onder andere commentaar bij foto's achter te laten en bezoekers te tellen. Verder is het nu mogelijk om bij het opstarten in te loggen, waardoor het eenvoudiger wordt om bepaalde taken uit te voeren, zoals het uploaden van albums. - On successful sign in, a jalbum.net hosting account is automatically set up (unless you have other accounts already set up)

- The comment box in edit mode can now be expanded vertically
- Album uploads now show progress in MB instead of files. The progress indication is also more accurate now.
- Updated "focal lengh 35mm eqvivalent" table to support more cameras. Thanks Armond!
- Jalbum now executes script if found in system/onstart.bsh on every startup
- Jalbum album RSS feed now includes camera information
- User variables can now be set per folder and image too. See edit mode
- User variables now ordered alphabetically
- User variables can now be deleted easily
- Accidental leading and trailing spaces in folder names are now trimmed
- Advanced: Added system property "subsampling" to override the calculated subsampling. Using subsampling higher than 1 speeds up image loading and scaling and requires less RAM, but can cause scaling side effects with images containing regular patterns in high frequencies.
- Developers: Jalbum's layout manager "RiverLayout" now properly handles invisible components
- Updated translations to over 10 languages. Thank you translators!
- Added a little "Easter egg". See if you can find it :)
